my buddy was mowing today with his big 0 turn mower.
the pump belt broke and the mower took off down the hill, he could not control the mower,
he was trying to get to the emergency brake as he hit the end of his camper.

he was not hurt, but it dented the camper and his pride.

Safety tip: if you have one of these 0 turn mowers and you mow on a hill, you might want to check the condition of the pump belt. as apparently you have little control of the big dog, if the pump belt breaks.

maybe practice a few emergency stops on a hill in case it every happen to you.

I've broken two belts on mine over the years. They always break on the steepest part of the yard - I guess under the greatest strain. My parking brake will stand you on your nose, but you have to be familiar with where it's at.

I have mowed using zero-turn mowers professionally for over 10 years. Here is my advice: Do not mow hills with a zero turn. Get a tractor style mower, or a sulky unit with separate steering wheels. It is not just dangerous if the belt breaks. If the grass is wet or the ground is soft, you may find yourself at the bottom of the hill and into whatever is down there. You loose all control when you loose traction.

This is great advice. It is no fun having to use 2 mowers to do the job but it's no fun to be in the hospital either. Make your choice.
