john deere manure spreader year and value.

I was just given a john deere model h series 47 manure spreader and i am wondering about what the value of it is and when it was made. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I got the same model and everything.I''ve rebuilt it once. It was my grandfathers but i dont know if he bought it new or used. he used it behind his 1952 ford 8n .He also had a 246-247 jd planter with the rolling disk markers. I bought a sales brochure online for it spreader. They had a door for the back so manure wouldnt fall out the back in transport and also had an attatchment so you could spread lime with it.THinking about trying to go by the pics and rig mine up to spread lime. They also had a 4 wheel model to be pulled by horses.I saw one in great shape but the guy wouldnt sell it. He sent it to china rather than deal with people wanting this or that he said. lol
:D

from the jdparts website, looks like an "early" model L was built from 1951-1959. A "late" model L was built 1960-? From the same site, the 4-wheeled spreader was a "M"

Dad bought a new model H the year he got home from WW2--1st new piece of farm equiptment he ever bought. It was heavly used until the mid 1970's when he bought a newer Minn to help out with the hauling. We had 200+ head of fat cattle in the feed lot + a dairy set up. Gives you some inkling of the time they were new and the quality of the equiptment back then.
