plowing corn stalks

I want to plow an eleven Acer corn field and the stalks haven't been chopped . Now they are wide rows and they used a 1440 combine and its was organic corn . I have a McCormick #8 3x14 and a john deere 44 2x14 . I have pulled the 3 bottom in heavy disked trash before and had no trouble . The deere plow I have never pulled it it looks good and has nice colters . Think it'll work ? And there will be pictures good or bad.lol

If you can, disk it 2 (or even 3) times at different angles. We do that here. Helps quite a bit. Still leaves some trask, but makes them managable.Nobody uses coulters here, but use your cover/trash boards

Here in the UK I compete in a lot of plowing matches every year. One match we go to is a field fo corn stalks and we can make a good job and bury all the stalks. We use 2 bottom trailed and mounted plows with 10 inch wide furrows 6 inches deep. MJ

I bush hog (down close to the ground) my corn stocks before I plow them under, It just saves you a lot of problems. With the coulters set right the trash should just pass through it without and problems. Try them both and see witch one works best. Bandit

Find some good heavy wire and wrap a long piece around the leg of each coulter so that you're trying to plow it under. It'll hold the stalks down and pull them over with the soil as it turns.

Well went and tried it and its a little wet underneath . Plow was way off tried setting things it was getting better but the lower part of the field was wet and sticky . Sticking to the rear wheel and bottoms . Upper part dirt would roll off and below it would stick but you push it with your foot it would slide off. Hard to scour a plow in that .if I disked then it would dry better .and I need work on the hitch to.

If the Fodder is Dry and the Coulters cutting deep enough, you should not plug very often..

I have seen fellows have a really BAD Time in Corn that was Bush Hogged..the Coulters cannot "Cut" the fine shreds as well and a

Bush Hog can leave thick residue along it's path..

A 14" plow should work well (assuming the field is not too wet)..

12" plows are a real "Pain" in Corn residue...!!

Had a neighbor years ago that had a miserable time getting stalks through his Oliver plow. He finally figured out if he plowed the field cross ways it worked excellent. Now he had 5 bottoms behind an 1850 and could not pull it very fast at all. I would think if you went very fast it would ride to rough but I think the concept would work the same if you went at an angle.

I never seemed to have much trouble plowing them in the spring. They didn't plow well in the Fall right after harvest, though. All you can do is try a pass and see what happens.
