Tedder Update

Firstly - much thanks for all the advice and support in my quest for a hay tedder. I found one for sale locally today and bought it. It's
weathered, used, but I think is OK. To the untrained eye - it looks like a piece of junk - LOL... Air in the tires was not included in the price...

It is a pull behind New Holland 156 two basket tedder. From what I can tell, it is a Kuhn GF22NT. The name plate in finer prine says mfg by
Belrecolt - which from what I can gather either is Kuhn, was bought by Kuhn or there is some link between the two. Manual will be on order
before the day is out.

I really thought I'd like a 3 pt mounted tedder and beyond that, maybe a 4 basket tedder - but the price was right for this tedder, so I bought it.
We'll see how it goes.

Anyone run or have run one of these NH156 tedders? Anything to watchout for? Any particular way I should operate it specific to this model?

The pic only shows one half of the PTO shaft, the other end is in the truck bed.

Thanks again!

It does have some Kuhn like stuff on it.

Should be a good machine.

I do recommend keeping a spare tire/tube since those are small tires and thin.

What are you talking about "weathered and used". That thing is brand new to anything I own.It is worth having some spare tines around if you have wood chuck holes. Those tines are tough but can be broken.

Apparently your definition of "weathered and used" and "junk" differ a lot from mine. That looks fine to me. I think you'll like it better than a 3pt. The 3pt one I have doesn't have caster wheels and is a royal, tender pain to use, but it's what I gots, so use it I do!

Take a look-see at this link:

http://www.agrisupply.com/pt-hitch-pull-type-rotor-tedder/p/83363/

It is a belt briven tedder, but more over, it is a 3 pt tedder with an extension on it - effectively making it a pull behind tedder. Just wondering if
you could rig something similar for your tedder.

Looks far newer and nicer than the New Idea side delivery rake/tedder that I use. It has low rubber, think model 47.
Also have a few of the same on high steel wheels without the oil bath gearing. They work great but aren't in the class with your rig.

That tedder is newer than most of my tractors.

The wheel set up looks just like my old Kuhn. Take one of the wheels off and check the bearings. The originals on mine were open In an unfriendly environment. over the next couple years I replaced them all with sealed.

Looks good to me! Just make sure you check the lube in the gearbox and have a good slip clutch on the drive line. I like to adjust my tedder so I can just fit the toe of my boot between the tine and the ground. Picks up the hay clean, and less wear on the tines.

Looks like a much better tedder than the one I am trying to bring back to life from junk pile status.

I bought a M&W tedder similar to that one a couple years ago for cheap -or so I thought at the time. In hindsight I paid way too much for it.

Your tedder however looks like a very good unit and I am confident you will be quite happy with it.
