320 baler problems

Last fall every time I stop the tractor the baler tied and would not reset. I have tried everything I know but still hangs up and finished up the year 600 bales. This baler has been a workhorse for 16 years doing about 1200-1500 bales a year with only grease and a 420 feeder upgrade. Also where can I get a service manual? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Get the manual from a NH dealer. I think you can order online. Are you saying when you stopped the tractors forward movement it tied or that when you shut the baler down it wanted to tie? What do you mean by "reset"? Sounds like the knotter trip mechanism may need adjusting.

We kept a eye on the knotters and it didn't matter how slow we slowed down and it is a smooth field. we took the pto out and left it in but made no difference if baler would mot reset the tie cycle on its own.

I'm not familiar with NH balers to that degree... but I went through something similar with my Deere last year. It could be that there is too much wear in the bale measure mechanism and it won't hold the pawl in place that prevents the bell crank from rotating... or perhaps the pawl is just stuck? Or a spring broken or missing? It's probably something quite simple when you get right down to it.

My thought would be that the knotter trip dog is worn enough or it's spring is weak enough not to hold trip dog into trip clutch at slow speed so as to complete tying cycle.

Or the spring is broke. I'm at a loss beyond that. Have to see it to "get it" I guess.
