Another IH46 baler question

I'm one of the guys that likes my 46 baler (you can tell from the tread earlier). I was wondering if anyone has successfully used plastic on one without any knotter modifications.I know the manual doesn't recommend it.There aren't a lot of sisal manufactures anymore and I believe one just went out of business.

Yes Charlie, I have. One knotter in particular likes it. This is, I believe, because parts of it are worn out and it is kind of expensive to rebuild. Do a search of this sight and you can find more info on these balers.

If you don't have twine end retainer springs, put them on,(they were not on 46 balers)but are on later models like 37 etc. Make sure the cord holder timing is correct. Disk timing gets late with wear on gears and spindles. They went to a tapered spindle that allows you to adjust cord holder for proper timing. You might want to check the spacing between discs as there are shims in them. I find the plastic actually cuts a little quicker than sisal so some twine knife adjusting may have to be done. Don't get confused when looking up parts on newer balers for latest parts. Remember, the all twine knotter they came along with on the 430, 440 etc is a different knotter and uses different parts than the updated parts for a 46, 47 etc.
