Looking at a Kr160 makes 4 ft wide and 5 tall baler. Wanting input on the good or bad points of them. Seems weird that you cant watch the string being put on. Is there any problems with that. Thanks

We have both a KRONE 125 4x4 baler and <a href="https://youtu.be/Uc5fy5zAKig">KRONE 260</a> 4x5 baler.

Make sure there is a "local" equipment dealer to provide both parts and service; our dealer is 50 miles from the farm.

One good point is both the <a href="http://www.krone-na.com/150_000_041_00_us_id_4624.pdf">Operator's Manual</a> and <a href="http://www.krone-na.com/2-274-0%20GB.pdf">Parts Manual</a> can be downloaded from the KRONE website.

Another good point is the 29-40HP tractor requirement to power the baler.

One very good point is most of the small routine maintenance can be made with two 5mm wrenches carried in the twine box of each baler.

Another good point is the grease fittings are accessible for lubrication.

One more good point is that the baler only has one hydraulic hose.

One of the bad points may be baler twine.

We must "special order" the MB 140 tensile strength baler twine that is recommended by KRONE for both our balers.

Reviewed the online KR 160 Operators Manual on the automatic tying system.

The primary key to success on tying a bale is the twine guides "hooking" the twine and sharp knives to cut the twine.

If the twine guide does not "hook" the twine, then stop the baler and manually hook the twine to continue the tying process.

It is easy to adjust the twine guide if necessary.

Keep a small file in the twine box to sharpen the knives every time before using the baler.

"Frayed" ends of twine might "wad up" and not get pulled in by the pickup teeth.

After initially getting both balers set up during the first year, both have worked very good with very few minor problems (left twine guide on the KR 125).

Hope this helps.

Mr Howell, thanks for all your info. Will the balers not work with regular 16,000 plastic? Hoy heavy are the bales that come out of your Krones? thanks

You can try the regular 16,000 plastic twine and see if it works.

Both of our KRONE operator's manuals recommend the 140 tensile strength twine.

We use the MB 140 Texas Twister which is distributed by <a href="http://www.ambraco.com/Twine/TexasTwister_BalerTwine.php">Ambraco, Inc</a>.

Our local TSC stocked the MB 140 Texas Twister.

The last several years we have special ordered the MB 140 from TSC.

Last year we were told they could not find a supplier for the twine.

Nancy went online and ordered the twine from TSC.

Will order online again this year and have it delivered to the local TSC.

Drove by the local salvage yard and weighed the truck, me, and two dogs.

Came back a few days later with a fresh 4x5 bale in the truck and weighed the bale, truck, me, and two dogs.

The bale from the KRONE 260 4x5 baler weighed approximately 700-750 pounds.

Never weighed a 4x4 bale from the KRONE 125.

Hope this helps.

I just bought an M&W 1800 which is just like a Krone KR 180 and the rest of the 5x6 balers they made. It really is a super simple machine. one thing I ran into if you are getting a baler that has sat a while go ahead and replace the bearings in the twine rollers and maybe the bearings in the twine hook mechanism the twine roll bearings are easy but getting the twine hook mechanism out is really pretty tough the first time you do it and I hope I never have to do it again. My uncle produce a cat from his rear end when I bought it said its bales would sag but so far they haven't. the cows like to start eating the soft core as apposed to the tight rolls of our Vermeer

yes fixed chamber with the apron chain makes a nice bale with 130 hp tractor although I don't wind the tractor up that much I would use a smaller one if I had one but the war department says I don't need another tractor
