Where is the serial number located on a John Deere 494A planter?

I might be wrong, and it won't be the first time, but it may not have a serial number. We had one and I can't recall ever seeing a serial on it, other than the fact it had a 494-A decal on it. If it has one, I'd look near the clutch assembly areas or on the main frame close to the tongue.

You are not wrong, olny the last year for them did they have a serial number.
