JD No 8W Sickle Mower
I'm repainting my JD 8W mower and would like to know the origional color of the cutter bar and the grass board. All sign of origional paint has been worn off.
Also, what is the difference between a No 8 and a No8W mower?

not sure on colors. Yes there is a difference between 8 and 8W. 8w was made with inner end of sickle farther out so guys didn't have to move tires in on larger tractors to use mower. Different pittman sticks also

Hayfarmer has is right. The real reason for the 8W was that tires wouldn't be required to be moved in when cultivating to mowing to save
time. Often times the same tractor was used for cultivating and mowing in nearly the same time frame depending on the weather.

Page from "67" parts cat. most grass boards I remember were smooth, with clear varnish or shellac, with decal & yellow grass board stick........ HOW about those "1967" prices!! ........ I do remember seeing green painted grass boards buy only on No. 5"s

The W stands for wide. I think everything was green except for the yellow wheel and varnished swath board.
