JD 328 baler switch to plastic twine from sisal

With the huge price jump in sisal twine what adjustments are needed to switch my balers over to the plastic twine I used to have a JD 327 that used plastic and worked great.

Most likely nothing. I switched in my 327s without a problem. I'd just make sure the knife that cuts the twine is good and sharp.

On one brand of plastic twine it said "works in all properly adjusted knotters". I have gone back and forth a few times with my MF 224 with no problems. it would be wise for you to go through the maintenance as presented in your owner's manual to prevent problems.

I switched over to plastic years ago. Used 130 and had a few problems with the knot pulling through. 3 years ago I bought a 310 New Holland that had sisal in it. Switched it to 170 plastic and have never had an issue.

Your 328 should have multi-twine bill hooks installed at the factory.

You might have to increase the twine disk tension only slightly, but I would try it as it is first.

If you get failures, refer to the manual to identify the problem and make the appropriate adjustment. Only do one adjustment at a time!

It should work as is but you may need to tweak the knotter adjustments. Both the twine tension and holder tension may need to be increased.

I'd add that the twine knives need to be razor sharp. Sharp knives will reduce (but not eliminate) the need for higher twine holder tension.
