Growing up my father had 3 New Idea Transplanters that we used to transplant vegetable out in the fields. I believe they were New Idea's. Does anyone know of this and if they are still available, or even have a picture of one to confirm if that was what they were. Any help would be appreciated.

( First Picture) Well the New Idea transplanters I have been around were usually pull types that your set with your leg straight out. You actually held the plant in the shoe where the water was placed.

(Second picture) The many of the transplanters were Mechanical Brand or Holland finger type transplanters. Both of these brands where both built in the same town.

Here is a video of the figure type being used

Mechanical Transplanter

Holland and mechanical brand

I understand the two founders of the company worked together for many years, but got into it over the water delivery system.

so one of the guys took his marbles and moved to another location. Opened his factory building the mechanical brand trans planter, but with a different water valve system.

over the years I have owned a Holland and now own a mechanical, both work well.

water system worked well on both units, I never figured out the reason for the disagreement, if that story is true.

The top picture was what we had. He modified the front portion so it could be towed by a famall A. He also built a rack on top so we could have more flats of plants on so we didn't have to stop. I sure wish I could find one. Would love to buy one to bring back here. When he quit farming, I was in the Navy and he sold/gave away much of the equipment he had, figuring no one waned to continue farming.

Dirtfarmer98: I have seen them sell but not in the last ten years or so but I do not go to sales in tobacco country like I used to. In the Burley tobacco areas there will still be some of them around. They will not be cheap. The Amish like them as they were originally made as horse drawn transplanters.

I will watch out for any. I would like to trade email INFO. Start a post in Classic and I will respond with an email.
