What kind is this? Bought at auction over the weekend. Ground drive. Thanks for any input

Old!

I was a little kid when dad sold off the New Idea ground drive
spreader. It was loosely shaped like that, from many many
years of memory ago.

Sorry, Delta, it is not a Minnie. At first look , I thought M-M too. But, No shields on the rear sides & this one has a slanted cross arch, M-M did not. Also, M-M never had a flare board on the top edge. I have owned a few M-M s, I think this mite be a General Implement [G I] or some other lesser known brand. After WW 2 , there were all kinds of odd ball machines on the market. clint

Looks like a David Bradley. Won't be the first time I've been wrong, but that axle being set back so far and the paddles sure look like an old DB....

Does not look like the David Bradley that we had. The rear "flinger" seems similar, but the beaters look different. If you have a picture of the drive on the other side, it would help to determine if it is, or is not, a David Bradley.

First off we need better pictures of the complete spreader including hitch and levers, also how the flair side connects to the beeter part. I do not believe it is a David Bradley for the first reason they never had a flair board on the 75bu. wood box spreader derived from a 4 wheel unit and that is what that spreader was orignally designed as and that is the reason for the axle being set as is for to equalize the weight on a front and rear axle., the tractor hitch was a modification made at factory or farmer removed front axle and designed his own hitch so that it was easier to back in to load. The David Bradley did come out with a 15-16" wheel on the 75 bu size spreader. They also for a while had a 15" tire model in a 90bu size tractor all steel spreader. McCormick, Oliver and Dearborn all had spreaders with the 16" wheel but they were all full steel tractor units so that eliminates them. Deere did make a 4 whel spreader with your size wheels, the model HH but that is not what it is. New Idea and Avery used a 20" wheel on there spreaders. Never seen a 4 wheel type Moline spreader but their tractor spreaders used a 18" wheel. The GI mentioned have only seen the 4 wheel spreaders on steel and they would have used a 20" wheel, Now they just may have made a 4 wheel style on rubber in later years, talking up to mid 50's at latest, so they may have used the small wheel and also possibly made a tractor version. Looks like the flair sides were designed to wedge the load narrower to go through beeters that both the bottom and top are same width, all that I have seen with the flair boards the top beeter was wider than the bottom beeter to account for the with of the bed at the top of the flair sides. In my 71 years have seen a lot of things. I have several New Idea and Deere spreaders here now in rebuilding or wating to be rebuilt condition in the 4 wheel on steel models. That is one of the things plan on looking for at sale next week.
