Expensive hay equip!

Now I realize what happened here, but for fun, sure is
expensive trying to get into hay if you have to pay these kinds
of prices!

On the good side, I have a nh55, glad to see they are holding
their value here..... To be honest, even with the decimal in the
right place, that's a bit of a bill for an old rake.

(If it disappears or don't feel like clicking, local dealer has a NH
55 side rake listed for $22,7500.)

Cheap hay rake?

Holy cow, Batman!

Have been watching some yard lurker rakes in the $700 to $1000 range and thought they were overpriced for a spare backup for my old NI model 49. Guess I better treasure the old relic!

Even dropping the zeros I would be more than happy to trade in the NH 56 I have used the last dozen years or so. I believe I paid $500 for it and the guy jumped so fast I felt I coulda done better.

I've seen NH rakes at auction here go over 2k for a repainted one. I have a Ford 3 point rake that cost $165 at an auction over 10 years ago. I have never put any parts in it, not even fingers, except I had to replace a tire one time. It has little 8" tires if I recall correctly.

I recall the days of a 55 or 56 bringing $300-500.

Last summer my gearbox went out, I took it to town to get repaired on the 55. Didnt want to mess with breaking the case myself.....

Was $600 when I picked it up, just about had to pick me up.... Was some damage and they did a pro job of reclining a bearing lip......

I was crying to myself until I went to a couple of farm sales, rakes were all bringing over $1000, a good 256 went about $4000.

Felt better after that.

I have one of those but all the teeth on it are rubber mounts and they keep braking and at $4 each I have not tried to use it much

Doesn't take much of a rake to bring $1000 dollars anymore. At least around here. If they are in good shape closer to $1500- $2000. If a dealer has one?? Hang on $2000+. New Hollands seem to bring the most for roll bar rakes, as IMHO they are the best ones out there.

Darn! I just sold one of those last spring for $100, mainly to get it out of the way! Didn't realize it should have been part of my retirement plan!

Gosh for the prices of roll bar rakes why wouldn't a guy just buy a rotary rake? Way better in my opinion. But a roll bar rake has it's place..... But not in my hay operation.

It would be cheaper to buy a new one. Pipestone have one last fall for around $11,000 with the dolly wheel.
