Texasmark1-404 Crimper vs Drum Mower

Texasmark,

Do you have any problem running the windrow from the drum mower through the crimper? As in, is it ever too much for it at once, or chokes it down etc.? We have never had to try it behind a drum mower, just a sickle or disc. Did not know if it would be too thick in the middle of the rollers or how it looked when it was discharged out the back.

As with farming, it just depends. Ground speed, crop
makeup......long and stemmy, short and/or leafy, or windrow
size all factor into it. Live PTO for me is the preferred driving
mechanism as you can stop forward motion, clear out clogs and
move on. In varying matter where you have thick and thin spots,
you can feather your clutch on the thick parts but keep a pretty
good clip otherwise.

Wet product with long leaves, stems can get tangled up, but
you'd have that regardless of the cutter type. Slowing down
helps to keep it cleared out.

Waiting a day or so for things to dry out a little before crimping
helps to prevent clogs but when weather is in the loop, as usual,
you can't always wait.
