New Idea Corn Snapper

A friend is looking at a New Idea 309 one row corn snapper. Has one bad bearing on the blower and needs a belt.
It was used last fall. They want $900 for it. Any thoughts on it's value?
Thanks, Richard in NW SC

That is tough to call.

Location and demand.

Is it a snapper or a picker with a husker?

I've seen them sell for scrap iron and seen them sell for $1200, and about the same condition. Just depends if the right 2 people show up.

Paul has it right. Location is everything. Around here all you ever found was snappers. No farmers around here would own a picker. They believed the corn kept better in the crib with the husk on. I looked at a couple of 309's here a few years ago and they were $2500.00 to $3500.00. That's the average price for a decent New Idea one row here.

If you think there's wiggle room, try to get it down a couple hundred. But if you can't, even with the needed repairs, it's worth $900. No snappers up here but 323 1-row huskers bring $1000 in beat up condition up to $3000 for excellent condition.

And around here the problem with a lot of pickers did not take enough husk off to satify for keeping. You had to grab the ears with husks on while unloading and finnish husking by hand before that ear dared to go in the crib.

This may not help but the Florence craigslist has a single row Allis and a three row New Idea parts unit listed now. Angle Iron
