A new brand of drum mower has possibly hit the market

Looks like our occasional poster of "Sweet Tractor" may be starting to carry a new brand of drum mower named "Tar River".

I know nothing about the Tar River brand but I do think it is neat how this mower folds up more like a 3 pt disc mower would instead of swing way back around to rear. Yes you need a hydraulic hookup but no need to disconnect your PTO shaft like the other design. Many claim the traditional drums that swing around to the rear are downright scary roading them from field to field with all that weight hanging way back there on the tractor the front end gets real light at speed. Also on some brand if you forget to disconnect your PTO shaft you can bend it when swinging it.

Copy paste this craigslist link for some neat photos (usual disclaimers: I have zero affiliation with the seller or the brand. I just thought the pics were neat).

I didn't pull up the file but the drum I have, which comes from
Turkey and is marketed under several brands here in the US, has
the ability to remain in the mow position and be lifted.

Method is to replace the final (farthest out from the PTO) lifting
bar with a hydraulic cylinder so that you can continue to raise it
over what the bar allows which is only about a foot off the
ground.

I don't have one rigged that way because I no longer go between
fields that I can't access with it in the mow position. So I just
leave it there.

Very interesting. Similar in design to my lift model Reese drum mower. The lift is very heavy, just like a lift style disc mower, but if your tractor is big enough they work well.

I have both a fold back and a lift style drum mower. Like them both. Good and bad about both types.

I have the fold back and was visiting the SFI site one day and saw the hyd. cyl option. If I were still moving from field to field where I had to move the position of the mower I surely would change out the bar. As it is, I have a shed I back it into and undo it just like it is. My Branson has movable links, sideways locking arms with a pin, and a lift lever right there at the PTO which makes for quick attaching and the PTO stays on since I don't need to swing it around.......that's another good reason why I like the cylinder mod.....don't have to remove the PTO every time you change fields.
