Hay Wagon Update

Had a chance to have another look-see at my hay wagon running gear and presently the wheelbase is set as short as possible, 8 ft. I can telescope the tube out such that the wheelbase is 11 ft.

I'm thinking of taking the deck 2 ft to the front and 3 ft to the rear (from the wheel centerline) and I'll have a 16 ft wagon.

Not sure why, but the tires on this thing are 8.25 x 14 low profile Fisk Rancher, 4 ply. I would have thought most any wagon tire/wheel would be a 15 or 16 inch wheel. I'll be putting new/used tires on this wagon too.

Thanks!
Bill

14 inch tires used to be real common on cars and light trucks. Now you can't hardly find them. Even new your limited on choices.

If you want 15or 16 inch look in old bone yards. If they are 6 bolt hubs they will have them there. Or you can buy new wheels at Shoups.

I've got a 5 ton Colby gear that has 14" wheels. Works fine for a hay wagon. Local tire dealer has both used car tires and new implement tires in 14" size.

Take a look at trailer service tires. Should be able to pick them up for $75 each and heavier rating than car tires.
