NH68 Wagon Hitch Brace

Looking over my NH68 baler, it looks like there is a brace to the wagon hitch that has broken the welds and is forever gone. Not a problem to re-weld a replacement.

Question is - from the pic, is there anything else missing from this wagon hitch?

Thanks!

My super 68 is a couple years newer but no reason you could not copy what was done on it.

The gusset piece bolts onto mine. It is roughly 37" or 38" long and is simply 1.25" diameter tube/pipe with wall thickness a tad less than 1/8" thick mashed flats on the end.

If you going to weld it on then any ole piece of scrap would likely work (i.e. an angle iron piece from an old discarded bed frame , scrap water pipe, dimensional round or square tubing etc.)

I wouldn"t use any piece of junk iron for the brace- stick with pipe, stay away from angle...much easier on you when you bang your leg against it while working on the knotter.

Angle iron or any ole piece of scrap is more than fine. No way in hades could a monkey even reach the knotters by standing behind behind that gusset. No way to step in between the gusset and the frame unless you built like Captain Hook. And New Holland used channel iron already on the frame piece that you might want to worry about when the knotters are within human reach. Orient the angle with one flat on top parallel to the group and the other flat perpendicular to the ground and facing towards the rear and all will be fine and equal to to the channel that is already present.

Thanks for the pics and dimensional info. I'll
definitely get the hitch braced-up before towing a
wagon.

Very helpful info - thanks!

Yes brace is missing, thats where I put all the missed knot twine and use it when I catch a missed knott.
