market for moldboard plow?

Where is the best place to try to sell a moldboard plow? I dont want to turn this into a classified ad, so ill just ask that simple question.

It would depend on what type of plow, clutch lift steel wheel plow in Amish area and Amish read papers, A 5 bottom semi mount deffinatly not in that same way. Then a 2 bottom 3 point would be an entirely different market yet so need to determine type of market you are aiming at and then decide.

The word "plow" is a pretty broad term.As was said,Determine your potential market.Your local classifieds;Craigslist;auction;consignment yard.........Heck,just setting it along side the road with a "for sale" sign might just work.

Craig'sList....in an area where plows are still used.
Example..areas of Cent. Northern Wi. where dairies are located generally plow up 3 to 5 year old hay stands , grow a year or 2 of corn and then back into alfalfa.

In upstate NY, most still use a moldboard plow as part of their crop rotation tools. This means that almost any plow that is still in good shape and fairly priced will sell.

Good advice in the replies.
I use Craigslist quite a bit, usually with good results. Listed a pair of Ford 101 3-bottom plows last week, and sold one yesterday. Early for northern WI, but it worked. It can be timing as much as where you advertise. I bought both those plows last Nov., when there wasn't much of a market for them. Now, spring is only six weeks away and people are starting to think about this year's crops and wildlife plots.

I should have clarified a bit. In the last three years i have used word of mouth, craigslist, yt classifieds, I think newagtalk classifieds...just cant seem to get a bite anywhere.. listed for 500 obo for 4-16 plow..

Why would anyone plow alfalfa. Last time we had alfalfa took last cutting off, let it regrow some, and sprayed with 2-4D and roundup before frost. Next spring disked and planted corn. Absolutely no regrowth of alfalfa.

It might also be the type of 4-16 plow you have. I looked for about 3 years before I found a nice JD 4-16 pull plow in my area of NE WI. I could find lots of 4-16 3 pts, but no pull types. Can't use a 3pt plow on a JD 830. Just a thought. Al

two and three bottoms are very hot around here for the plow days. Just sit it by the road with a sign on it and it will sell.

Consignment auctions are good. Plows here in South central Nebraska will bring at least $100 per bottom reguardless of condition

If you don t post a picture, most people will not even look at a CL ad anymore.

I am interested in a 2 or 3-14 bottom, pull type plow with rope trip for behind the F-20.

Just for example, 4-16 JD semi mount 145 go for $100-250 on auctions here.

A 3-16 semi mount will bring $400-500.

A more modern high clearance IHC 416 720 will bring $1500.

Folks like the smaller ones an old tractor can pull, or so,etching that can pass cornstalks through.

Same here I sold two 3 bottom plows on craigslist in the past month. Both people drove over 2 hours to get them. People are thinking about spring and plowing. If priced right it will sell.

You plow alfalfa while it is green to add nitrogen to the soil, and built the biomass of the soil. It is a cheap way of adding N. That is why crop rotation is so important. The plant still has to be green for this to work. Killing the plant does no good for the soil This method is left over from days when minimal chemicals and fertilizers where used. Your way doesn't help the soil a bit.

Those are all good places in sell a plow! I'm gonna have comment that I still think a mold board plow has its place it's just another tool in the tool box in western pa we have ground that we can no till every year we have ground you half to plow either chisel or mold board and we have ground I can disc it up after corn and plant corn in it again! They have thier places in my opinion

It is so easy to make a 3x16" out of a 4x16" F-145 (including the Semi-Mounted), I would think the 4 bottom would sell better..!

After all, you NEED to remove the Bottoms, to clean and Lube the Pivots anyway..

In this area[Clark Co...Nort. Cent. Wi.] we are blessed with cold , wet clay soil. Tillage generally used to get quicker warm-up in Spring. Some tile starting to be used....from what I observed during last Springs late start....takes tile line for 6 rows of corn!!!!

CONDITION makes all the difference, to a serious Buyer/User..
Include Condition of the Plow, including all New wearing parts and if it is actually Scoured and READY to use..
A Rusty plow "for sale" is just a piece of Scrap Iron..

NICE..!!

I LIKE "OLD-SCHOOL"...!!

The way we did it every day back then..

We even kept some Honey Bees near the Hay fields for pollination..(really helped Clover Seed production).

Same way here in NE WI. You have to do fall tillage(plowing) in our red clay soils if you want to plant spring crops like oats, corn, soybeans etc. All of my land is tiled, but since we have rolling lands, we just run the tiles in the ditches/low areas. But a few are now running tile every 50'. But that gets expensive. If my land wasn't tiled, I don't think I could have planted last year. Al
