Replacing Bill Hook on JD 14T Hay Baler-Help Needed.

Our mail man approached me wanting to know how to replace the bill hook on his 14T John Deere square baler as part is broken off and it won't tie. First off, I have nothing in the form of reference materials on that baler (mine is a NH 311) and have never been close to a 14T. For starters we need a part no. of what to start looking for in a replacement. Are they identical on both sides as I don't know which side is broken? Second, some guidance on how to R&R one and some pictures/photos would really be nice. Anything else you think we need to know or obtain would be great along with any special tools which might be required. JD hay balers are not very common in this area as this is New Holland country it seems from my observations.
Thanks for any and all assistance anyone can provide, Hal.

Hal,same side toside. Replace as you would on your new holland. I may have a couple of extra billhooks.

1. Both billhoooks are the same.

2. You can view or print the parts catalog (in .pdf format) for FREE by going to www.jdparts.com.

3. Replacing a billhook is NOT rocket surgery. The operator's manual goes into a LOT of detail about troubleshooting and repairing the knotters. If the manual has been lost, calling DEERE @ 1-800-522-7448 will get you a replacement, or search Fleabay.

unpin knotter frame.Rotate it up.There is a small pin in the billhook drive gear. punch that out.pull out broken hook.Replace with new one. Those JD knotters are vitually identical to NH(no parts are interchangeable however). As was said buy a owners manual ASAP..Look up parts manual on line if you dont want to spend money on a book. When all else fails, talk to your local JD dealer.

Got everything all figured out through the link to JD implements provided by Bob. Like DeltaRed noted the steps to replace it are exactly like in my NH service manual. The mailman I believe is fairly adapt at equipment repair and frequently asks for assistance knowing I play with the IH stuff as well. His usual biggest problem is finding parts as JD and IH dealer support in this area is a far cry from adequate. I've run him off several copies of pages from the JD parts on-line and from my NH service manual and will give them to him later today.
Thanks for your assistance in this matter and looks like driving that small pin out of the pinion is the key to R&R the bill hook, Hal.

If you have the correct spare billhook assembly you care to sell send your contact information and I'll pass it along to him. My email is open for a reply if desired, Hal.

Very simple job even a cave man can do it LOL. Should have called me back last night I could have help you with both problems LOL. Shoot I even have a couple brand new bill hooks on hand from a 14T

Rich, I'm sure he will be looking for a bill hook so send me a price for one and I'll pass it along to him. He just didn't know where to start and I've never had to replace one on my NH 311 so didn't know exactly how to remove the broken one from the baler. After looking in my NH 311 baler service manual it was very apparent. Do you use a 14T for your square bales? Thanks for the response, Hal.

Been years since I used a 14T but still have a broke down one here with lots of good parts on it. Had the plunger stop not work and broke the needles and the knotter frame on it so had to find another baler
