IH Side Delivery Rake - Removing Hubs

Figured I'd start a new thread on this thing, the last one was getting kind of long.

So, before I break something... how do the wheels come off this thing???

Is there a trick to it?

I pulled the main pin out at the hub and expected the center hub to just slight straigt out. - but it is not moving at all.

There's some kind of square key that looks like it's driven into the axle, between the axle and hub, does that pull out? Or is it actually part of the hub?? Mine's so dirty and rusty I can't tell.

There's just nothing to grab on the center inner hub to pull it out with. I've tried heating it and soaking it with penetrating oil. I'll try that a few more times before I resort to force.

I'm trying to be gentle, if I crack something this whole projects going to come to a screaching hault before it even begins!

A tapered key and to release you have to be able to drive the hub in first. You may have to take the axle out of frame to get enough space for the wheel to slide in so you can drive the hub in.

Wow, glad I asked - moving the hub IN first would have taken me quite a while to figure out on my own!

Thanks

I have one of these rakes I am restoring too. And I have the same problem you did. Cannot get the Wheel off. So how did you finally get the wheel off? Was it necessary to remove the axle or could you push the hub in? Maybe if you gave just a little more detail on how you did it, that would help.

I'm thinking I will get new tires for it and then remove them from the rake when not in use rather than have them sit out all the time.

Thanks,
