I have a Bush hog brand brush hog with a 7 foot deck and cannot remember the number designation on it. I use it behind a Ford 7000 (85 HP at PTO)I am buying a JD 5045D(45 HP0) to replace the old Ford 7000. Can I use the same 7ft.bush hog on the 5045 D? Also , will a 5045D John Deere pull a 4 bottom plow in sandy/clay soils? Thanks

I would say yes to the brush hog, but 7' is going to be a load for it in anything heavy. As for the plow if a. 5045d is what I'm thinking of I would say a 2-3 bottom plow would be all it would handle around here, but I do realize different parts of the country are different on that.

Things have changed a great deal in the last 50 years..
Most newer "Utility Tractors" have Net-rated HP and are too Light (at least weight-wise).
I would doubt they would stand up to the FULL-Power loads for very long without going to the Shop for repairs..
Today's 45 HP tractor has no chance of pulling a 4x14" plow ( unless it is not in the ground).
The 7' Bush Hog will work, depending on just what (and how) you are cutting..
A 6' Bush Hog can stall a 60 HP tractor. It is all in "How"..!

Do you, by any chance, think it might be a 307? If so, it is one heavy rotary mower! I used one with a 5000, and the front of the tractor was real light when the cutter was lifted.

My considered opinion, (worth about 2 cents), after checking Tractor Data, is the 5045D with 45 gross engine HP, but only 37 PTO HP, would be busy with a medium duty 6 foot cutter, and 3 14" or 2 16" plow bottoms!

I run an 7 foot J.D. behind my 3020.. it has 65 horses.. It runs it fine will cut most anything you can drive over BUT lift it up and the front end gets a little light.. I added the two weights on the sides that wrap around the front helped but I could use couple plates added..
