Looking to up grade my 56 planter! How good were the 800 plate planters? Thiers one coming up at a auction saturday doesn't look bad! I need a heavier planter for my stoney fields and the 56 just doesn't cut it! I have had a guy plant my corn for two years and he has great stand using a kinze 3000 but I want it done earlier and last year he didn't get to me till end of may! So Im thinking about planting my own corn!

You have less seed options with a plate planter. Unless the 800 is a short term solution I would look at something else. If possible start setting aside some money every year for a Deere or a Kinze. Think out of the box and consider a White which is just as good but gets less respect because White "failed" back in the 1980's. I would bet a good if not shiny White 5100 6 row could be had for around 2000 dollars.

Never saw a 800 plate planter, We have a 4 row 800 cyclo air with liquid fertilizer. Very heavy planter, we like ours, only trouble we've had was the hydraulic pump that runs the fan motor gave up. If it uses the same row units it should be no-till capable. Should be a double disc opener instead of shoes.

Depends on your tractor, of course, but the Cyclo air planter is a pretty nice unit. Parts are available. Definitely an 800 though. The earlier units are getting pretty old.

JD 7000 set the standard 40 years ago. Still does. Kinze gave you a good stand cuz it"s a copycat JD. For some, IH has an advantage with its seed drum vs JD individual row boxes, but certainly not on seed placement, which is the most important thing. That"s what pays the bills. White also has excellent planters when it comes to seed spacing.

Bought an 800 3 years ago and really like the stands I get with it in full no-till planting into green cover crops. I did not know it when I bought it but the Early Riser planting units are very good about getting even emergence. Mine is an air planter and not a plate. I would say if you can get good graded seed and make sure the knockers and cutoffs are in good shape I don't think you would be disappointed with this planter.

So do you know if the 800 planter box will interchange with a 295 planter box? If so can you still get the knockers and springs etc from caseIH/
