Ford 16-27 One Row Corn Picker

Anybody know how good these machines worked? My cousin has one that was on some land he bought and it has been sitting awhile but it would appear it could be made to work again without too much wood. I guess my question is... Is it worth fixing if I have a use for it? We grow about 3 acres of corn per year so it wouldn't be used much. Thanks for your help in advance!

Had a 1951 year model Ford one row picker. Replaced some bushings and greased it up and it did a good job. Check all the shafts for bearing play. Check the sheet metal below the beaters that move the corn to the elevator and at the bottom of the elevator. I had to do some patching of sheet metal. Local CNH dealer (old Ford dealer) made me a copy of parts manual. Sold it last year. Corn has to be clean and free of viney weeds for it to work well.
What I grow now, I pick by hand.

Thanks for the info. As far as I can tell, the main issue will be the blower... It needs quite a bit of work before it will work, I'm wondering if it can be used without the blower or if the stalks and chaff and everything will plug it up at the bottom of the elevator? Thanks again!

I have the Wood Bros. pull type picker, what that 1 row is based on. All of the grey ond most of the red units did not have a blower at all. Only ever seen one picker with a blower and they are not referenced in any way in the books I have. Years ago had a Deere mounted picker and blowers were shot and not on, worked good as far as that was conserned. Only used it part of a year as it broke down unrepairably.

Definitly use blowers. Ive seen quite a bit of difference in the trash. Might even try the equipment supply catalogs and see if yu can get the blower type fans that will fit or made to work. Most ive seen do not blow enough air to do the job of loosening husks and blowing away dirt and chaff. I'm planning on adding a few to my pickers in the future. :D

If the blower is there, I would just repair it.
It does remove a lot of light trash. You could probably get by without it.

Thanks for the information, guys. I would like to just play with it although we could probably pick it almost as fast by hand lol. I will update with our progress and try to get the blower working if it isn't too far gone!
