john deere front end manure loader

My son has a John Deere model b tractor that has a Model 25 cable front end manure loader. It works well- all cables. We saw pictures in a book, but haven't been able to find what the value of one would be. It's not on a styled b. Tractor itself is rough, but runs. The housing had a crack, but it's been repaired and looks good. Any ideas about the value? An auctioner said they don't come up for auction very often. My son wants to sell the tractor with the loader. My email is [email protected]. Thanks for any help- Gretchen

I saw a JD cable loader sell at a local farm estate auction in the early 1970's, lots of 1940's Deere tractors and equipment. I don't remember the model number of the loader. It was unmounted but in good condition with good original paint. Most local guys that looked at it agreed that it had a too small bucket, it had a complicated lifting system, and it would be clumsy/dangerous to operate. They wouldn't want to use it even if it was free. The collectors loved it, that cable loader sold for one of the highest prices at the sale.

The cable loader is probably more collectable than the tractor, but the two units might appeal to different buyers. I would price the loader and the tractor separately. If a buyer wants both he can still buy both units. If the loader works well, leave the loader on the tractor so the buyer can test the loader and take pictures of how it mounts. Do your research and advertize the loader nationally to get a better price, few locals will be interested in paying much for it.

Don't know the value but I stopped at a JD dealer in North Dakota many years ago and he had one laying in the weeds....NOT FOR SALE was the reply. You just don't see them any more. We had one on a '41 A and like a dummy, cut it up for scrap many years ago. Wish I had not done that.

Put it on Ebay and let people bid on it? Put it on Craigs List POR? (Price on Request)
