Materials for kicker wagon

I've got two kicker wagons and two flat wagons, and I'd like to turn
at least one of my flat wagons into a kicker wagon. Does any
company make a kit with the hardware for a kicker wagon? Its not
rocket science, but I thought I would check and see if anyone had
made it any easier...its mainly the pockets for the vertical supports
to sit in on the sides that seem somewhat difficult to find...I had to
have them custom made the last time I worked on one of the
wagons. Any thoughts appreciated!

How is the flatbed built? Depending on the way it is put together some readily-available solutions won't work.

I"ve seen some steel kits that use flat stock at the bottom of the sides, and they simply bolt onto the flatbed. No need for any pockets.

I put a new deck on one of mine a couple years ago. The verticals are about one and a quarter and a little foot is welded onto each one about five inches up from the bottom so that it rests on the outer board of the deck. Then there is a separate loop part that goes around each upright and the inner end of those is bolted onto the end of the two inch thick cross member with a through bolt. I had to get the new crossmembers specially sawed.

Aaron, You've got it right! Dave
Here's how they're mounted on a rebuild I did!

The last one I built, I cut the cross bunks short by the width of the stakes, used heavier planks at the sides of the deck, cut notches in the plank and bolted a piece of quarter inch steel The full length of the deck to close the out side of the pockets. The stakes just drop in to the notches, and the strap holds the outside. The bottom of the stake rest solidly against the end of the cross bunk.

If you look closely at Dave's pictures you can see the little "feet" that are welded onto the inside of the uprights. A tip: lay strips of aluminum flashing over the top edge of the cross members. Keeps them dry and chaff falls off. Increases life tremendously.

This is how I did me wagons, as showcrop said, put flashing on beams like I did to preserve them from rot. I used treated 2x6 for the floor, the wagon in nice sturdy.
