N. I. Gathering chain questions

I have a New Idea no. 7 corn picker that I am trying to resurrect. One of the gathering chains is missing, and a second one is missing a few links.
My experience with the flat detachable chain is somewhat limited. How interchangeable are the different chain sizes?
The one chain is 67W. I have some regular 67 links (narrower). Can I use a couple of these to get the length I need?
The chain I'm missing altogether is supposed to be no. 62 according to the parts book. Is any other size interchangeable with that? Would the no. 67 work here?
Also, on the links with the gathering hooks on them; they apparently come both left and right handed, meaning the hook is off centered on the link. How critical is this?

I'm not concerned about the correct police, I just want the thing to work. It may never pick any corn, but if I take it to a show and decide to do so, I want to be able to take it into the field and play with it a little.

It would also be nice not to have to buy a 10 ft. roll of chain when all I need is a few links! :)

Hope these questions made sense. Thanks for your help!

You should use the correct size if
possible. However,in an 'emergency' you could get
by. Try a link and see if it will 'fit'.I have
inthe past used a chunk of HD roller chain in a
section of regular roller chain to get by(or vise
versa).I doubt if the #62 and #67 chain will
'interchange. Try it and see. Lay it across the
sprockets and find out.I may have some extra #67W
out in my 'bone pile'.(been 'saveing' drive
chains for years). I would gladly send you a few
links for free.. Will check later today. E mail
your address or phone #(or post it here if you
want). Or you can call me. (970) 417-1178. Steve

#62 chain and #67 chain are not interchangeable. The pitch (length of the link) is not the same. Let us know how many links you need---OF THE CORRECT NUMBER). I think I have some links of each size.

I looked and have no #67 chain.I do however have 3-4
feet each of 62 and 62H. The pitch is the same. They
will hook up. But the 62H is heavier /thicker and
wider. The center'hole' and the attatchment
point(hook) are the same.

Just checked out in the barn to see what I had----Six rolls of #62 and one new roll of #67 plus 42 links of the #67. Don't know how many feet that would make---Send me an email if you're interested----Martin

The chain that I am missing altogether is 62H, not 62. That was my mistake. The parts book says it takes about 20 links or so. DeltaRed, if you want to sell that short piece you have I would be interested. My email is [email protected]

I called my Agco dealer and he has a short end of 67W, so I should be good to go there.

Thanks for the replies!
