I have a New Idea no. 7 corn picker that I am trying to resurrect. One of the gathering chains is missing, and a second one is missing a few links.
My experience with the flat detachable chain is somewhat limited. How interchangeable are the different chain sizes?
The one chain is 67W. I have some regular 67 links (narrower). Can I use a couple of these to get the length I need?
The chain I'm missing altogether is supposed to be no. 62 according to the parts book. Is any other size interchangeable with that? Would the no. 67 work here?
Also, on the links with the gathering hooks on them; they apparently come both left and right handed, meaning the hook is off centered on the link. How critical is this?
I'm not concerned about the correct police, I just want the thing to work. It may never pick any corn, but if I take it to a show and decide to do so, I want to be able to take it into the field and play with it a little.
It would also be nice not to have to buy a 10 ft. roll of chain when all I need is a few links!
Hope these questions made sense. Thanks for your help!
