Cone seeder/fertilizer pto cable

Been given a price for a cone shaped Seeder/Fertilizer. It has a PTO
driven cable that is locked up. Can any one give me a Ball Park
figure on what it might cost to replace it? Don't know the brand. It's
cat. one size.

I bought a new one of those last spring.Cost $500.00 from TSC. It does not have a "cable" on it anywhere. It has a regular pto.the setting mechanisim is a handle bolted to the unit. The agitator was stuck,TSC warranteed the parts.Maybe you could post a pic of the unit,or part in question.

Just a guess you mean the pto shaft(what it does anyway)We used a straight radiator hose with two screw clamps.

IMO run away.I've had bad experiences with them. It's a over size speedometer cable that will break at the most inopportune moment. Or you forget to run the PTO while your loading.Get to the field and turn it on and POW.The one I had was a work saver.

Good Luck.

Just did a little Internet snooping, and couldn't find any. All are
like mine, have a light gear set in them. But I've heard of the
cable drive in the past on them, kind of like many weed
whackers or like you say big speedometer cable?

I know I've seen others before too. Maybe on CL. My internet search is coming up blank too. I'd have to drive back over there for pictures. I was picking up a little trike from him and saw it. It belongs to his son the preacher. And the day I was there was Sunday. No sale day for him. He's asking a hundred for it.

They are light duty, but would work ok for seed, fertilizer might be a different story. Fertilizer is much harder on the drive system.

maybe you could soak the cable with a 50/50 solution of acetone/automatic transmission fluid, many time this solution will loosen up frozen parts.

I have a small 3 point hitch seeder spreader, works good, but light duty, it uses a heavy duty rubber hose as a drive shaft.

you have to be careful starting the pto, the new tractors with quick start pto might not work with this system as it would sheer the drive shaft when the pto started turning.

I always let the clutch out slow until the spreader is up to full speed.

there might be other spreaders out there, that would have a heavier duty drive system. a spreader with a broken drive system is just scrap metal.

Wish I could find one. I've got a spreader out in the toolshed that Dad bought new from TSC back in the mid 60s. The cable broke after just a year or two. It's been sitting upside down out there every since.

I have a "Work Saver" brand one with that type of drive, I have had it for 35 years still works fine but I do keep it inside when not in use, I have applied some fert. with it but mainly seeded with it
