Slip scoop latch adjustment?

OK I've got a "Linebach Line" reversible slip scoop (looks identical to a King Kutter) and the latch spring broke - I replaced it with a similar spring but the darn latch won't hold now. If I try to scoop/lift a full bucket it dumps. the next stronger spring from the hardware store wont let the latch release at all (unless I get off the tractor and lever it up with a pry-bar).

Anyone got and adjustment suggestions?

I have a 'King Kutter scoop. It does not have a
spring on the latch. It is a 'gravity' type. have
never had a problem.Just pull the rope and it
dumps.Look at the point of contact. Make sure it is
not rounded or grooved.

Hmm, this one is spring loaded to close & catch. it's got a hinged roller that hits the catch - there's a depth stop to adjust the contact area, I've got it so it's against the stop - maybe it needs more freeplay than I've given it with the new spring.

That may be your problem. It may simply be too
'tight'.Loosen it a bit. Have a little slop in the
works.

I was having the same problem with the catch on this dump scoop. on this tool you pull that top lever which releases the catch and it allows the scoop to dump.

I welded a bit more length onto the bottom of the catch hook, then ground out the back of the catch area a little deeper,

worked, the catch has never unintentionally released on me again.

this was a shop made tool, so someone years ago made this thing in a local metal shop.

I did add a stronger catch return spring,

works good.
