My 858A rake gearbox will not go into gear, I think the lever goes to far down and doesn't engage nothing. What should I do?

There should be a cover on it. remove it and look
inside. You should see the problem. That
failing, closely examine the 'drive train' for any
abnormalitys-sheared key,etc......If you have
to,jack up the (drive) wheels(support with blocks or
jackstands).Turn by hand and observe what happens.

I'll guess the problem is broken shift fork(parts key 9) or it's also possible groove pin(parts key 8) came out. As previously stated one needs to disassemble the gearbox to determine cause.

For years I didn't think that the gearbox on my 640 came apart. Upon closer inspection one day I found that it did.

We have a 858A and found the clutch gear key #10,
teeth were worn round, which allowed it to slip
causing the rake basket to stop turning. Took it
off and built up the teeth with the arc welder and
it works fine. If I remember correctly, the
clutch gear is no longer available from Deere, or
was maybe one of those parts that are now priced
as if they are made of gold. Wasn't much trouble
to remove the gear and replace it.
