Oil seal restorers

Do they work? I think there are several brands, but an ad for seallube caught my eye. Sounds wonderful, but are the claims true? Thanks for any input.

Most of that stuff is just a band aid that will work for just a little while. Kind of like Lucas transmission additive, just puts off the expensive repair for a few more days

Lucas stuff does work very well. Are the things you are adding this to old or newer. If they are old enough to have rope seals nothing will help other than a new rope seal.

Lucas Transmission kept my truck going for a few years till I sold it as no longer running. Garage could find no reason for blowing fuses but they replaced a bunch of bad wire under dash. After I sold it found out that last tine they had the dash apart when putting radio back in they had pinched of anouther wire. It also helped keep the cars going and at that time I was doing a 140 mile a day start stop 200 times in that trip 6 days a week and if it kept the car going anouther 6 months was well worth it.

I used a oil sealer one time and it cost me big time. The stuff caused the oil pressure relief valve to lock up which in turn blew out almost every seal in that engine so I'll NEVER try the stuff again

Most what I would add to is old. Was thinking more in the line of gear boxes and old hyd systems. What got me thinking of this stuff is the steering sector on a IH 460u that I am working on. Small leaks around the shafts coming out.

I put a bottle of Lucas in the Allison 545 transmission in a school bus. It was bad. It wouldn't downshift to first, no reverse, etc. The seals inside were so bad it couldn't build enough pressure to shift. I put that Lucas in there and ran it for one hour. After that the transmission worked perfectly. After about 5000 miles I got tired of worrying about it leaving the driver stranded so I replaced it. Of all of the snake oils, I am sold on Lucas transmission restore. I put it in the gearboxes on the rotary mowers and lawnmowers, etc. It is good stuff.

I've have good luck with Barr's stop leak products. My power steering on a 1990 Ford F150 leaked about a quart a month until one day instead of oil I filled it with transmission stop leak from Barr's. Never added oil again in the next two years I owned it.

I've never had any luck with any product stopping a rear main leak on an engine - but I always add 1/2 bottle of Barr's at every oil change to stop a leak from starting. None of my vehicles (Fords, Jeeps, Kias) have engine or transmission leaks. They all have stop leak added with each oil or fluid change.

My dad used the seal lube brand and he had good luck with it sealing up a caseomatic transmission. It was dumping the oil from the caseomatic section into the rearend.
