Drill Scraper Replacement Question

I've got a JD/Van Brunt Model B drill that needs a couple of the disc scrapers replaced (the ones riveted to the cast boot). Scraper is held on to the boot by two rivets. Are there any tricks to replacing them, such as can it be done easily with boot in place or should I remove boot assembly from machine?

When I was employed by a JD dealer the technician didn't rivet the scrapers back on the boot for fear of breaking bottom of boot off but welded scrapers on using Ni-Cad rods

I've done the same thing Tx Jim described. Trick is getting the new scraper clamped in place.

If you have any plant debris in the field, you need the scrapers. Otherwise stuff will build up between disk and downspout, causing disk to stop turning. I have fabricated replacements out of 1inch by 1/16inch metal. Takes a little hammering on an anvil to get the proper curve. Weld them i place with a wire welder. Don't recall rivets on them. Maybe my drill is an older model.

Years ago I replaced many scrapers. Usually the reason the seed boot breaks when riveting is because it is worn very thin. Otherwise, riveting can be done but I always hated removing those danged stubborn rivets that had probably been in there for 20-30 years. I also brazed them on successfully. You definitely need to remove the boots and it really helps if you have a helper to hold them when riveting.
I have NOS scrapers, both left and right if you need them. Probably some rivets also.
