I think I 'bought' the planter I earlier
discussed.6x30.6 row,3 point.Has insecticide/herbicide boxes.We agreed on
$2000.Pending on how much money I 'make' on corn
this year!LOL I'll post pics when it gets paid for and home....

Steve That should be a pretty good price for that planter. Email me an we can talk about setting the meters and such. There is not that much to them. Some guys like to talk about how they can "tune" them and how you need a test stand to really check them out. That is all a bunch of BS. There are just a few parts to check out and keep in good shape. Those row units will plant hundreds of acres with very little going wrong.

Thanks Ronnie. I would like to call and talk sometime. Email me your Number. or you can call me if you prefer. (970) 874-3973(H); (970)417-1178(C) Steve

It's not bad to have a pro set them up once, not too much money, and from there watch the brushes, you can run many years after that with just watching the cheap brushes. Can do it yourself too of course.

Shoup will be your friend, they offer more parts and quicker support than the current crop of mega dealers JD has these days....

If your corn units are rusty/ bad, the Presision units are a good price and better. They have a better brush system.....

That will be a good planter for the rest of your life, the new ones are bigger and faster, but not better for a smaller operation. I have a 6 row 7000, had a 4 row wide before.

JD, while the standard meters will do a respectable job they can be more finely tuned to do a better job over a wider variety of seed sizes. I've worked on many over the years. A test stand will allow you to do a much better job of setting the meters. I will respectfully disagree that the test stand is BS. I used to think as you but the stand made a believer out of me. I have yet to find one I can't make better with what the stand tells me. It also makes a difference in what kind of stand is used. Some of the older test stands simply counted seeds. So, if you ran a test of 1000 seeds and you had 50 skips and 50 doubles the stand would say you were planting 100%. Actually, you are only planting at 90% accuracy. A properly cleaned and adjusted finger pickup meter can be set to consistently plant at above 98% accuracy. Meters don't leave my place until they attain 99%. With the cost of seed corn these days the cost of having meters checked can be recouped very quickly in seed savings, not to mention higher yields due to better spacing. I respect your opinion on many things but must respectfully disagree with you on this one. Mike
