Hi guys,
I am going through my JD 1240 finger pick up planter. I have some questions now and I am sure I will have some more later. I am looking at replacing the disc openers on the planting shoe's and the fertilizer openers. Does anyone know what size the seed opener discs are supposed to be new? The online parts book gives a couple options. The option that looks closest to mine is 14 inches. That seems big. Mine now are currently 12 inches. Can they be worn that much? The fertilizer openers on mine are about 10 inches, but the book again gives a couple options. I took one of the 12 inch seed opener discs and put it on the fertilizer opener and it fits perfect. I was thinking if this is correct then I could move all my seed disc openers and put them on the fertilizer openers. Does 14 inch seed openers sound right? Where can I find these at a reasonable price? John Deere wants $63 a piece. If I replace all 8 that gets really spendy. I appreciate all of your help
