3 pt Carry-All

Late this summer, I picked-up a 3 point carry all from a seller on CL. It has a decent frame and needed a new deck, so today, me and the boys hooked the carry-all to the JD and fitted a deck to it from a salvaged piece of OSB. We'll use it like a small pick-up truck, mostly carrying firewood from here to there.

The deck is 4 ft x 6-1/2 ft. Nice little addition to the fleet.

Once things warm-up this spring we'll put some nice paint on it and maybe a better deck, but for now it is a worker.

Thanks,
Bill

You will find you will be using it all of the time. The ability to set it flat on the ground makes them handy as heck to move bigger stuff by yourself.

I have one made to fit on my loader. I use it just about every week.

when i was a kid, my dad used a Ford 3000 and a carry all to feed all our animals (small square bales and sacks of oats... they are handy things...

I use mine all the time too. Until I got my small trailer, I hauled wood to the house with mine. I moved my pigeon loft one year with mine. I've bolted long saplings to the arms and stacked brush on them.

That OSB won't last long if it keeps on getting wet. Buy a 3/4" sheet of exterior plywood and paint it for a deck that will last.

They can be a handy device. 20+ years ago I worked for my friend's father on their produce farm in Colorado and we picked vegetables into a carrier like this on the back of a 4020. This summer I visited their farm and that same tractor and box were still in action for harvest.

nice addition, you will find many uses for a carry all.

I have a few like it: all have there place.
carry all, dump bucket and a set of forks

Looks nice but keep in mind that it doesn't look like the heaviest steel frame I have ever seen. And the OSB needs to go. Even outdoor plywood is not going to like being flat like that. Treated planks are what I use. 2x6 with a pair of 2x4's holding them together. I keep lots of oil on it and it holds up well.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Used the carry all a bit today to haul some firewood - nice addition to the fleet.

As I mentioned earlier, the OSB is a piece of scrap I salvaged from an old torn-down roof. It will be used until it goes south and then something more robust will be fitted.

Thanks!
Bill

If your going to carry a lot of firewood it might pay to add some steel framing to make it so it dumps.
This one is store bought and has carry a lot of wood over the years.

Better yet, get a hunk of expanded metal screening. Things don't slide off that stuff as easy and then you won't lose your chainsaw in the woods....I hope.

I'd be putting some weight out front if I was loading something that big to capacity. My carry all has brought the front end of a Case VAC off the ground many times.

For the load of firewood in the photo it operates
good. I do have front wheel weights on it. if I use
the cart on my 4000 with the heavy front end and
front weights I can load it up considerably more
before the front gets air-bound.
