questions about a hay unroller im building

building a 3pt hay unroller that pulls the hay on the ground to unroll and have couple questions.
1. do the spears need to turn with a disc with ears on it to grab into the side of the bale or can i just weld spear to the end of the arms and let the bale roll on the spears.
2.and where the bale arms meet the main frame of the unroller would it be better to weld the brackets onto the frame or onto the arms? i have seen them both ways but not sure which would be strong or if it matters?

and if anyone has any measurements of one that would be helpful but i think i can figure it out by measuring my hay and building it to what i think it needs.

The plate supports the center core of the bale. I built one years ago and could have bought a factory made one for a hundred and fifty dollars less.

My unroller has a tine with a plate and 4 points that turn to grip the bale, grease zerk to lube it... i guess you could use a solid mounted tine too...

Mine has the arm pivot bushing welded to the main frame and the arm has brackets...

One word of advice: if you intend to carry a bale any distance on the unroller before unrolling it build it HEAVY... i've rebuilt mine several times over the last 4 years, the arms are now 4x4 inch box (.188 wall) and i would make the pins for the arms to pivot on bigger than the 1 inch ones i've got and bush the arms too, so there is some meat there...
