The original subject was "New Holland 271 Baler".

I am going to hijack this thread and ask some questions.
I have been looking at a Super Hayliner 69 and at a New Holland 271... Is there any difference in them other than the sheet metal?
Are they faster than a 273 baler with the rotary feed in them?
Or should I just wait for a NH 277, 278 or a 320 to come along? Thanks, Smokenrust

The 269 is an older baler that has an 'oddball' feeding system. The 273 is newer. And in my opinion a better baler.273 is more common to the 276 and others than the 269

Think the 269 was the long pole 268... there was a Super 268, that had a different feed system in it, like the old model 68 I believe. The standard 268 was also belt drive pickup where the 273 was slip clutch... and the feeder assembly was slightly different as the tin work was too.
The 270 and 271 (short pole, long pole)were marketed at the same time as the 268/269/272 were being made (short pole, long pole, and engine only).
But what I don't know is, are the Super hayliner S69 and the 271 the same baler under the sheet metal? The same capacities?
Wolfman said, "A 271 will eat hay. A 273 won't. 273 much slower - lower capacity" - I read on a NH brochure for 268 and 271 that the capacity was 14 tons/hr... for both of them!mmm maybe brochure wrong? LOL

Are you wanting the larger bale size??? You are listing models that are larger. All of them would be faster than the NH273. The NH 273 was a fine lower capacity baler.

The 68, S69, 268, 269, 272, 270, 271, 276, 277, 278, 310, 315, 320 are all 14X18 chambered balers...
We had a 68 baler that was traded in for the 273 and that was a good trade, much better baler.

The model 280, 281, 282, 283, 285, 286, 420, 430, were 16X18 chambered.

Models '99', 290, 500 were 16X23" 3 string or wire as listed in the 'Offcial Guide' from 1981.

What I was wondering was what were the capacitys of the older 14X18 and the differences in the S69 /271 etc. thanks
