JD planters 70 71

The 70 is older.First built in '56.The 71 is late 60s to......I think Yetter still makes the 71.Some parts interchange, but not many. I think the seed boxes are interchangeable. The plates are the same. The drives are similar, but different. The mountings and parelel linkages are also different.I still use a 70.Set up for 6x30.Been a good planter, but is starting to have some issues and need to update.

Drive chain tension adjustment greatly improved on the #71, as was down pressure adjustment. If you'll be using them for any significant number of acres, it's worth the cost to look for #71's. They'll handle a less than perfect seed bed MUCH better. Late production (while still in current Deere line) were built under contract by Yetter. Once Deere dropped the #71's, Yetter bought design rights and continue to this day with their own version. Parts are same. Parts between #70 and #71 are of very limited cross-fit. Parts for both #70's and #71's are still available through Deere inc. They are for the most part priced in line with Yetter's parts. Plates are BOTH "type B" common Deere seed plates.

#71's are simple, as accurate as a plate planter can be, and excel in conditions where seed bed might be a little rougher than "ideal".
