What is the correct JD green paint color for a JD #44 plow? Or any other paint company number to match it.

I agree Dupont has 3 shades in their Centari brand alternate 1 is close. A few years ago someone had some new old stock parts that were computer matched to Dupont Imron J.D. green. Most quality paints sold in the automotive grade are so close the difference is hard to see.

First of all I guess we have to make some assumptions. We have to assume that JD used the same paint on their plows as they did their tractor that was designed to pull that plow. Second, we have to assume that you would want this plow to match your JD to pull it with. With those assumptions in mind, here,s what I did. Mind you, I've been in auto collision/restoration for over 35 yrs. This is on a '50 "B" which would match up , period wise, with the 44 plow. When I had it all disassembled , I took the air filter canister which had never seen sun and never been painted and was completely preserved in oil/dust sludge (they all are) and it cleaned up just like brand new. Took it into my paint supplier for years (PPG) and I , not them , matched it up using a color spectrum book, like at the wall paint store with every shade progressively from one color to the next. Did a test spray out on the air filter and was a panel to panel match. I've done two complete tractors with it. The other was a one owner '49 MT (never painted) and it also matched some unexposed parts of that tractor. Then bought a seat back (green steel w/pad) from Leland Schwantz (the seat man)(was the best)and installed it on the restored seat frame and it matched Perfectly! What's the chances?? This is enough documentation for me (and I'm fussy) to stay with. The PPG # is 43817 and if they say they can't make it, e-mail me and I I'll give you the formula numbers/colors to make it. My e-mail is open. There are others who have matched it also with their own formulas. Check in the archives on the paint forum. The classic from JD dealer may be correct color. I have never used it because I require more than 1950's technology to top coat my long hours of hard work. On a plow that might set outside all the time you may not want economy paint. If it is a inside plow then go for it. Your specific requirements will drive your decision.
