MF 550 Combine

They are a big 4 row machine. Will work circles around a 4400/20 deere or F size Gleaner. Similar separating area to a 66 deere, just less power/weight/size.

Combine and heads are generally pretty cheap compared to the competition.

EASY to get a super clean sample.

The 354 perkins is as good as an engine gets, I like to run with the window open just to listen to it.

The separator clutch is a bear to work on. The header drive shaft on mine has a tendency of twisting off for no good reason.

The standard shift models are a bear to shift because of the way the linkage is run.

Because of how many 510s are/were out there parts are no issue.

For a small farmer they are easy on the pocket book when it comes to general parts like belts and bearings.

I have one its not perfect but the cost of keeping it in the field is low enough I cant justify getting another color of machine.

what heads can you get with the machine?

Ran one at one time, later worked for a MF dealer. Nice amount of capacity for a compact machine, Perkins engine was easy on fuel. Drives, transmission, unloading system no heavier than they need to be, tougher to make many repairs as compared to Deere. Lots of age variations....red cab with white roof is the oldest I believe, red cab with silver roof and silver unload auger were the last built at Brantford, Ont before MF pulled out and ticked everyone there off
