Source for odd metric size roller chain?

Hi,

snapped chain on old kubota tiller. Near as I can measure its 22
mm pitch and 13 mm rollers.

That is not anything like a standard size; 60 and 80 roller chain
no good. All the DIN chain sizes I found are just metric
equivalents to imperial sizes (ie "we have metric chain: 25.4 mm
EXACTLY!")

Motion Industries could not locate a chain for me that would
match up.

Kubota wants $350 for a chain that might or might not be the
right chain and they can't tell me the size of the chain they'd
order form the warehouse, and they do say if it ain;t right I
CANNOT return it.

GRR!

Any ideas where I might turn, short of making my own repair
link?

thanks!

Try a motorcycle shop that sells Japanese motorcycles.I find it extremely hard to believe that a dealer like that doesnt/wont sell/stock proper chain........

Sounds line #60 but badly worn. what do the sprockets look like? are all the teeth sharp and pointy ?

Look up McMaster-Carr, if anyone has it they will. If you can't find it online pick up the phone and call them.

McMaster is a great idea. If nothing else I can buy two new metric bore sprockets that will accept ansi standard chain. Great solution!

can't help too much, except to say that having grown up in the UK all the metric chain there is standard as it were, #60/#80 or what ever, and even on the german potato equipment we used we just used regular chain. I've never seen anything else, I'd be looking to change the sprockets and use a heavy 0 or #80 chain instead.

If the chain is badly worn and stretched the sprockets are probably badly worn as well. If you have to replace the chain and sprockets, this is a good opportunity to convert it to the closest standard size. Is the rest of the machine in good condition?

CALL Shoup's and ASC. They have some pretty ggod people who may be able to help you, and may have some metric stuff....

I've never heard of metric chain. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist... but I've never heard of it.
My solution would simply be to remove those sprockets and replace them with something of similar diameter that maintains the same tooth count RATIO, not necessarily the same tooth count. I'd use an 80H if possible... Have the sprocket hubs custom bored if you have an odd shaft size.

Rod,

Your ideas are one of the reasons I read almost every YTMAG response.

I find myself unable to think that there are other ways to skin a cat.

Most Japanese bikes use english roller chain sizes: 520 (narrow version of 50 chain), etc. www.DennisKirk.com and www.ShadeTreePowerSports.com are an online sources for motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile parts.

(quoted from post at 22:51:37 11/12/14) sizes
poke

Pretty unlikely that Japan was using British Standard roller chain. the chart you posted supports this. All I see listed are just narrower versions of our common SAE ones.

All the metric chain I have ever seen has the same pitch lengths as ANSI chain, but the width is different. You can run one chain on both kinds if sprockets, but the other will only run on one type.
I wonder also if your chain is a highly worn/stretched 3/4" pitch chain.
