jd 7000 planter

Jd 8 row, does it hurt anything to lift the planter up by the ends using two tractors, one on each end? Planter is to wide to go in the shed, need a loader tractor on each end one to back in and the other to drive in.
Lifting at the ends of the frame with a chain, will it put to much stress in the middle of the planter and bend anything? I dont think it would but i dont want to "tweak" anything.

You would have to use your best judgement on that. If the tool bar is heavy enough it should pick up just fine. Keep the chain clear of planter units. I loaded an IH Cyclo 800 onto a trailer using two tractors. Took it off with one. Two was better...far better.

Got it in the shed no problems. The center seemed pretty strong since that is where the hitch is.
I like the end transport, i never even thought of that. Anyone have any up close pic of how it mounts on? I can build my own just to get it in and out of the shed, i wont be going down the road with it.

I"ll bet you could adapt the carry wheels/axle from a 7100 for that use. Clamp it to a bracket on the end of the beam, attach a hitch on the other end, with brackets that drop down from the main frame....mount a tube that the hitch slides in to.

I put an end transport on my 8 row Cyclo. I found it by advertising here in the classifieds. Guy was parting one out. He removed it for me and loaded it in my truck. I grabbed a lot of other parts while I was there. You will REALLY like end transport. Makes it a lot easier to move, even between fields.

How I stored a JD ridge 8 row planter for years, was just build a sled out of two long 6x6 posts. I found some wide channel iron that the tries would fit in. I put the post about four feet apart. Then cut four foot sections of the channel iron. I laid them down flat on the top of the post with the "C" up. I then lag screwed the channel iron down to the post. In the middle I cut one of the channel iron pieces long enough that it would reach the front of the frame to where the transport holder for the tongue jack was. The jack could be turned down.

I would back the planter up in the sled and then let it down. The units set on the back post. The jack landed on the front half of the one cross iron. I then just removed the tongue.

I drilled a 3/4 hole in each end of the posts. I looped a cable through each side separately. I just would back up with my quick hitch on the tractor. The loops would hook into the lower links on the hitch. So I could pick one end up. Then I just would slide it into the shed.

I like that idea, i think it would work very well.
