two bottom plow value

I'm going to an auction this weekend to bid on a two bottom plow. One is a trip plow that appears to be functional but tires are pretty much shot. The other is hydraulic but no cylinder. Tires are wore but holding air and usable. I can't imagine either going for more than scrap price but I have no idea what it would weigh. I'm thinking $100 tops. Also an 8' disk, hydraulic lift, no cylinder.

Shares, moldboards, and coulters are all in decent shape. No broken/bent coulters and turn fine. The red trip plow had the moldboards painted before going to storage, the green one needs to have the rust ground off.

I'm going to be using an Oliver 77 with single hydraulics.

I paid $500 for a disk like that a few years ago. The hydralic lift plow I would say $200-$300. It has trip standards and that is a nice feature.

Green Is an Oliver as far as I can tell and so should have the throw away share and I would say $3-500 for it. The other One I think is a McCormick No. 8 Little Genoius and would normally have blacksmith sharpen shares, being on rubber would cut value here as steel would have to be found to be able to be put on. I am guessing as is $150, if on steel $250. And for that disk I would not drag it home for it, non adjustable angle gang and then it also looks like a 9" spacing and if it is you had better make sure it has a full 18" blade on it. Had too many non adjustable angle gang disks over the years, pull harder and do not do as good a job as the adjustable angle models and then to do a good job blades need to be at least 17" or better on a 7" blade spacing. That disk is a Deere

Around here most 2-btm plows would sell in the 200-300 range. I paid 250 for a Ferguson 2-btm about three or four years ago. It had colters and 3PTH.

The auction I was at here in NW MN last weekend had several plows on it the four and five bottom JDs went for $200-$300 dollars each the Fergusson 1 bottom rollover went for $125 missing a bottom the Case three bottom Eagle Hitch I bought was $90 with coulters and a share missing The Allis three bottom quick coupler went for $125. with all the plows the tires held air but needed to be replaced The plus side was that most of the plows were otherwise field ready and for a few dollars over scrap price a person could have gone home with some good usable plows because the wear parts were all in great shape.

I would say if you plan on only spending 100 dollars on either of these plows you might as well stay home where it is warm........

I had no idea there was that much demand for small moldboard plows for them to sell much above scrap price. I'll revise my budget and get a little more cash.

Be advised...that type of drawbar attachment (on the RED Plow) will drive you nuts..you loose the plow every time it releases and have to re-attach the plow to the tractor...
You can find other JD trips (for the drawbar) that use a Clevis..
I really don't recommend the Chain activated Clutch Kick-out (for a JD), but have wide experience with it (keeping my KNEE away from that Killer Clutch handle)..!!!

The green plow looks to be an Oliver 4240 2 bottom plow. They are expandable to 3 bottoms. It appears to be missing the lift are for the rear tire. It is set up for hydraulics. We had a 3 plow version. Very good plow an easy to pull. I have a manual for the plow. If you get it e-mail for it.

That disc looks great. Around here that would sell for $700 easily.
I have 2, 2 bottom plows and a third I need to go pick up when I
have free time. If you want a 2 bottom plow that looks like crap
but works like a charm I've got one for sale for $100 but I'm in SW
PA and shipping would probably be an issue.

The hitch on the red plow works just fine. The clevis goes on the tractor drawbar and the plow hitch drops into the clevis. I've plowed many acres with a set up like that and have NO complaints.

Of course you loose the plow when it releases. If you didn't, something is going to break.

I don't know where these folks are who claim those
plows are so valuable. I bought a John Deere 44 H
similar to the green one here and I only paid $50
for it. It was from a private party, no auction. It did need new tires but otherwise good to plow with.

Where is this sale at? I would like to find a 2 bottom plow for behind my F-20 that I haven't got fixed up yet.

Last one I bought, I offered $100 for it. My buddy said no. Then he said "for you" I will take $75.
Here is a photo after I modified it to fit my 8N.

Buckeye swap meet and consignment this weekend Wapakoneta, Ohio, Several Deere 44 plows in swap meet area decent condition all priced in the $400 up range, Parts only plows prices at $175. Other complete different makes priced in that same $400 range. Going to be a deere 44 and my Case in sale tomorrow.

Not so much...as long as you actually have it on a "2-Plow Tractor"...

My JD "B", with a pull type 2x14" is just fine with the Break-Away over-ridden.
Average plowing speeds for these was 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 MPH and often much less..
If you do hit a rock, the rear wheels will slip or the engine will pull down quick..either way, I have plenty time to stop the tractor before it dies..
Way, way better than the old "knee-Breaker"..

I will agree that I had no idea that they were so valuable...

I have 6 plows, 4 trailed, 2 three point, and I haven't paid for a one of them! They either came from neighbors, or the best story of all:

I had been working on a family about 4 miles away that had one in their yard, on another piece of property (not one that they lived on). I offered the lady $100, then $150, then $175, just a REALLY nice condition Case Plow. She said no no no, I want it for yard art when we build a new house out there on that property. Well, about two weeks later, the husband called my dad at work, and told him, to tell me, to "make it disappear over the weekend". And believe it or not, it just vanished!

The top one is an Oliver. It should go for $175-$200. If it goes for anything under $400 I'd still buy it. But that's just me. Would be a perfect match for a 77.

I have found, and ive plowed with IHC and Case with the drop finger hitches both, that IF you have a hitch like the JD plow hitch, you will be fine. IF you use a twisted clevis hitch, and it is a large one, the plow will twist itself out. IF you use a twist hitch that the finger barely fits in, youll be fine.
