Hello,

Just got the No 6 up out the woods. Took forever (haha) as the wheels were frozen up on it. After a week of spraying with Kroil Oil and sitting on jack stands they finally broke loose.Thank goodness it was out of gear.

My question is how do you remove the pinion gear from shaft. I got my shift fork off and now want to get the ring and pinion out so I can completely clean out the gear box. I went out to corn field and got a cob and whittle it down to plug drain hole in bottom of gear box and fill it with diesel fuel so it can soak for few days.

I do know that it will have to come off to the get the shaft out
through the front flywheel end,and how is the flywheel mounted on the shaft ?

Thanks for any help.

If you go tot his link- http://smallfarmersjournal.com/product/manuals/manual-130-mcd-6-big-6-plain-lift-mower - you can get a manual that tells you how it goes together for about $10.00. I've brought stuff like that back from the dead, it's goign to take a lot of patience.

Hi Brett,

I am waiting on manuals now for my No 9 and No 6 mower. I hope that I can put a little life back in this one along with the No 9. Just letting things soak, and soak and soak a little longer is the main key to working on anything that is frozen with rust.

Thanks
Tim

UpDate!

After letting the ring gear and pinion soak for about 24 hours and getting several doses of oil in the oil holes got the crank and ring gear to finally turn with a little help.

Hope that by the weekend will have ring gear out soaking so it can be cleaned and clean the gearbox out and get it ready to put back together.

Hello,

Has anyone found a source for the flip open oil caps for the No 6 mower. As you read and see in post getting my ole No 6 back into rotating shape. Looking for the oil caps to keep dirt and weather out of oil holes and also looking for thrust washers or shims for the wheels. Looking to see if anyone knows where or if crankshaft bushings are still available for the No 6. Will also need a wrist pin and the pit man stick straps for the wristpin end and blade end.
