i just bought a 1992 model Vermeer Super I (504). it worked great when i tried it out but now (2 months later) the belts (which are newly replaced last year) turn very slowly even though i'm running at 540 rpm setting. When the bale builds up the belt speed picked up for my first four bales. I rolled three more bales thenHowever, then the belt speed just moved slowly until the hay bale was about 2 feet in diameter at which point the belts stopped moving altogether. This happened multiple times.

Any ideas about what might be wrong? The pto turns as usual but the belts turn very slowly. Thanks for any help you might be able to give. i turned all the rollers i could reach with my hands and they move freely and the chains seem to be fine.

check for a broken shaft where the chains drive the rollers. I had a 605d once did the same thing it was broke and covered by the bearing on the chain drive. It took me a while to figure it out as I could not see the cracked shaft then removed bearing and there it was. Turned fine until has pressure on it always stoped at the 2 foot diam bale. good luck
