IH 501 16' disc question

I have a set of IH 501 disc. Need to replace 2 20" pans on it
while replacing axle. Case dealer only 24" pans takes a week
to get 20" pans. Will this cause any problems putting 2 24"
pans on with all others being 20" pans?

Yes. The bigger blades will leave a deeper trench when cutting, making an uneven appearance to your disk path. If you must use them, I would put one first on the axle and the other one last on the outside.

It is hard work to tear down a disc gang and put it back together. No sense doing something that you'll regret later and have to repeat the process when you get tired of looking at the odd sized blades in the gang. You'll be glad you waited the extra week to get the correct parts.
