Update. I acquired a new drive shaft and had the willies. I took it off and turned the CV OEM around with the CV against the baler. More willies. I put the OEM back with the CV toward the tractor and AOK.
So I took the shaft off and lubed it up real good so that it easily slipped back and forth. I then took a couple of door hinges and a 2x4 and built a support for the drive shaft taking the weight of everything but the CV joint off the shaft. With the gate cracked, taking the pressure off the belts, I can now hook it up with a reasonable amount of effort.
I will leave it be. I can go with it as is.
Thanks for your input.
