JD 328 Baler

Been reading a ton of posts on the John Deere 328, 338 and 348 balers.

There are many posts regarding the 328. I had the impression this was more of a smaller capacity baler, for the part time/hobby farmer. However, it looks like many are using this baler for many thousands of bales per year! Kicker and pulling a large wagon too.

Is the 328 that good? I would have thought higher count baling would demand the 338 or the 348.
 

I'm sure a 328 will be fine for a small acreage farmer.

More bars for teeth in pickup & twice as many hay dogs on higher capacity baler.
348 = 78 teeth
328 = 52 teeth
6 hay dogs vs 3 hay dogs
 
Its all relative. People put up 40,000 bales a year with old 14T and 24T. The 328 would outbale them.

Its sort of like comparing a 3 year old iphone to this years model, the old one is still pretty amazing, just happens there is a newer/bigger/shinier one now.

I have a 1976 or so JD 336 and a 2006 or so JD 348. The 348 bales about 20% more bales an hour, but the biggest advantage is the nice wide pickup and the multiluber. The 336 has baled hundreds of thousands of bales and the 348 is around 120,000 bales. Both are good balers. The 328 is nicer than my 336 if I recall the specs right.
 
I have a 327 which would be the prior model... more or less. It's a good baler in many respects. We've put 1500 bales through it in one day. The problem I have with it is that I'd rather put 1500 through it in 3 hours instead of 8 hours... It's a 200 bph machine and no more. Parts start flying if you push it harder than that. I've found that PTO shafts don't take much push on those balers... Otherwise I think it's a pretty good baler.

Thanks everyone!

I guess the same could be said for the 328 as a bunch of balers, even my NH68. It's amazing to me how these balers can crank out 1000's of bales and continue to operate year in/year out!
