what type of fluid

I have a '55 640 with Wagner FEL and Sherman back how--both implements share a common hydraulic fluid resevioir. What type of fluid should I use to top off? Hoping to get this at NAPA. I live in Wisconsin if viscosity is an issue. Thanks, jeff

The loader and backhoe would both be happy with UTF. Universal hydraulic fluid. BUT, it is your TRACTOR that might be fussy. Consult your owners manual, and use what IT tells you to use.

Yea, a universal trans hydraulic fluid, that meets or exceeds
Ford/New Holland 134 specs should be fine.

It -may- be thinner than what is in there now and may show up
leaks a little more.

Some folks back in the day ran 90 weight on everything and
that got along fairly well too, would be thicker in winter.

I'm assuming your pump has its own tank, not the tractor
transmission sump? So you won't be mixing with the tractor
fluids, so it wouldn't have to be 134 spec; but you might as well
and then be able to use the same jug for the tractor and the
pump.

Both implements are 3rd party. My understanding is that they probably purchased from and installed by the dealer. The reservoir is separate from the tractor. Unfortunately, I don't have manuals for either implement.

Thanks. Correct--implements and tractor have separate pump and reservoir. I'd hate to go thinner--don't need faster leaks. My main concern was putting in something that would damage seals, etc. Sort of like the automobile ATF-- dextron vs. mercon.
